Vardas House by Vardas Studio in Cyprus
December 23rd, 2009 - Posted in Home Design IdeasThis house has characteristic as purity in materials and forms. The idea of this house is nothing to hide, so Vardas Studio produce a ‘brutal’ raw building. it reveals itself to the outside world that it stands bold without any fear. The deliberate use of one material gives a greater imposition to the above concept. This is a primary use of concrete in it’s purest form, although we know today people try hard to get perfect concrete. this house proves that concrete is all about – real and bold.
This building has two volumes. first, the top volume was designed in such a way as to ‘feel’ that is suspended over the other. second, The ground floor is occupied by the living, dining and kitchen in an open plan. A light staircase dominates the space. the bedrooms and other private rooms are placed on the top floor.

Although the single use of one material is aesthetically very effective in this case backed by its concept, the single use of concrete is appauling! How about a grey render replicating concrete?? This should not be encouraged, not in this day and age! Small amounts are acceptable relating to the structural aspects but such accessive use is unacceptable. Well done to Vardas Studio in creating such an aesthetically pleasing piece of architecture but on the same note: One does not recognise this effect when outbalanced by the material and its effect on the environment
